Telco giant du takes home two awards at the 2021 Middle East Technology Excellence Awards

The company was recognised in both Blockchain - Telecommunications and Cloud - Telecommunications categories.

du, a world-class telecommunications company in the United Arab Emirates, continues its dominance in the market as it secured two trophies at the 2021 Middle East Technology Excellence Awards. Spearheading a smarter business ecosystem in the region, the company was recognised for its innovations in Blockchain - Telecommunications and Cloud - Telecommunications categories.

The telco giant won in the Blockchain - Telecommunications category after the successful launch of its Blockchain Edge platform, a system providing a comprehensive end-to-end Blockchain Platform as a Service (BPaaS) solution for its clients’ cloud-based networks.

du’s Blockchain Edge platform makes innovating in blockchain simple, seamless, and fast. It enables the development and deployment of blockchain technology within minutes, removing the barriers to innovating blockchain-based applications and services.

“Blockchain Edge immediately delivers all infrastructure and production components required to operate a blockchain network and enables the services to be operational and accessible 24/7/365. It enables organisations to ensure business continuity, enhance security, create seamless transactions services, and deliver substantial operating expense savings,” said the company.

du’s investments have been focused on expanding its capabilities and working with vertical industries to co-create solutions using the platform. The company said that the platform is infrastructure agnostic and supports blockchain solutions that serve its entire ecosystem. Because of its highly secured system, clients, ranging from vendors, distributors, and wholesalers, to retailers and customers, all have access to the same agreed-upon record of information without revealing their internal information systems.

“It makes it simple to create a blockchain network and invite stakeholders to share digital assets and execute transactions seamlessly and without a central authority. It is an end-to-end solution, starting from infrastructure design, network security, and selecting the proper blockchain framework that suits the required application and business needs all using an agile methodology and operational excellence,” said the company.

Moreover, du was able to secure strategic government projects through its pioneering investment in blockchain technology. Amongst these projects include the consortium governed by Dubai Economic Department and other entities—Dubai Airport Freezone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, DMCC, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and Dubai Civil Defence on a unique platform that enables trade license data exchange within the consortium.

The Dubai Civil Defense partnered with du to automate business processes and data exchange. Blockchain Edge was integrated with the government’s blockchain-based Unified Business Registry Platform for issuing inspection certificates and licenses.

Another big partnership forged was with Dubai Airport Freezone. The move would automate licensing processes for activities that required a no-objection certificate from other government agencies in a single platform enabled through blockchain.

The company secured their second trophy for the Cloud - Telecommunications category after the success of the du Cloud Platform. Its foray to cloud technology allowed them to offer end-to-end cloud migration and management capabilities to their clients through a single unified multi-cloud platform that enables its users to rapidly migrate workloads to the cloud and manage an organisation’s entire multi-cloud estate through an intuitive and visual user interface.

du’s cloud services were also aimed to help its users become more familiar with its design and let them use the platform easily for their business processes. Its user-friendly cloud migration services provide discovery, assessment, design, and planning to ensure organisations have an efficient and optimised approach to the cloud. It also helps individuals using the platform to make educated resolutions.

“Our management services help customers to bridge the cloud talent gap and focus on their core business. With all cloud services visible in a single platform, teams benefit from connected insights. Rather than managing workloads via cloud providers’ platforms, users simply log into du Cloud Platform and have immediate access and visibility into infrastructure and resources. They can see their entire cloud estate and capture new insights, then rapidly make informed decisions,” said the company.

Aside from the reliability and ease of use, the company’s cloud solution is also esteemed for its data security. du’s platform is fully hosted in the UAE, ensuring resiliency, reliability, and regulatory compliance. The company explained that the critical data of their users stay local, thus benefiting from du’s dedicated Cyber Defence Centre. The trust from their customers enabled the company to work efficiently with relatively swift migration.

“We make it easy to manage risk and create a secure environment for adopting, innovating, and optimising cloud services. The results are business acceleration with 5x faster cloud adoption at 30% lower costs, and enhanced customer experience with 3x faster business acceptance and 90% automated post-migration activities,” said the company.
