SWCC embarks on digital transformation journey to address concerns effectively

It was able to raise the efficiency of the organisation’s business by evaluating the organisation's agenda and periodic field tours, along with the efficiency of labour productivity.

Water is a valuable resource in the Middle East, which makes it a tough and expensive task to extract salt waters around Saudi Arabia such as the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) embarked on a digital transformation journey to deal with the issues of manual processes such as follow-ups, workforce control, and day-to-day operations whilst uploading them to the SAP, to address the concern effectively and efficiently,.

SWCC was established as an independent governmental institution, mandated and entrusted with seawater desalination and delivery of desalinated water to various regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its neighbouring areas.

With the institution functioning as one of the main sources of water for many inhabitants in the Arabian peninsula, SWCC aims to best meet customer needs for desalinated water more efficiently and reliably at the lowest possible cost and the highest economic return.

This is also whilst effectively investing in and motivating human resources, developing the desalination industry, contributing to economic and social development, and complying with safety and environmental standards.

With more than 32 plants, thousands of labourers, and many contractors managing the labour, SWCC aims to control the numbers and quality outputs.

Moreover, SWCC realised new business value by identifying the achievable business opportunity, mapping a client-specific execution journey, and delivering the business outcomes, as well as partnering to plan, lead, govern and enable significant digital transformation across an enterprise.

The institution was able to do this by utilising its DTO Managed Accelerator Methodology. Under this method, the DTO works in three parts, namely: the IdeaLab, where concepts form and then passed to the Collaboratory that works on the concept with small prototypes and improvements to the idea, and lastly to the Foundry that takes the minimum viable product into a pilot stage and scales it for implementation or deployment.

Through these methods, SWCC was able to raise the efficiency of the organisation’s business by evaluating the organisation's agenda and periodic field tours, along with the efficiency of labour productivity by following up on the workers’ attendance and periodic evaluation. The organisation also achieved raising the efficiency of the speed of delivery of notes and registered communications to organisations.

It was able to reduce the time and effort of observers in their daily tasks by using reports and indicators to reflect the performance and productivity of labourers instead of relying on paperwork. At the same time, it ensured better efficiency and save costs with the new system. SWCC has racked up a return on investment rate of over 168% over the course of the development and implementation of the DTO.

This undertaking by SWCC has been recognised by the Middle East Technology Excellence Awards as it brings home the win in the Mobile - Utilities category.

The prestigious awards programme honours outstanding organisations in the region that made exceptional contributions in pursuit of technological innovation in their respective industries.
