Sensing the Moment at Senja Aman’s Integrated Wellness Resort

Senja Aman Holdings wins in this year’s Malaysia National Business Awards.

Malaysia and especially Penang, is a favourite destination for international visitors and medical tourism, and to capitalise on this opportunity Senja Aman has developed the Angsana Teluk Bahang resort at a prime beachfront site in Penang, managed by the internationally renowned Banyan Tree Hotels & Resort. This establishes Angsana as the first beach resort managed by the Banyan Tree Group in Malaysia.

“An avid traveller and investor myself, I envisioned an investment in a beach holiday home that gives not only a healthy yield, but one that includes a time share element which you own and appreciate. The Banyan Tree Owners Exchange Programme allows investors to stay 60 days at their apartments at the Angsana resort in Penang or exchange 15 days to stay in other participating properties around the world”, says Dato Simon Foong, Senja Aman’s Group Managing Director.

For combining this unique lifestyle and investment, Senja Aman Holdings was awarded the Hospitality & Leisure award at the 2023 Malaysia National Business Award. This award programme, presented by Asian Business Review, celebrates the milestones of businesses in Malaysia in their pursuit to succeed using innovative approaches and techniques.

The Angsana Teluk Bahang is Malaysia’s first development that integrates a 5-star beach resort with a healthcare facility that caters to clients seeking regenerative medicine and anti-ageing/stem cell treatments, making the entire estate into a unique and holistic wellness resort.

Guests at the resort can enjoy stunning sea views from each and every room in the award-winning resort, distinguishing itself from other beach hotels in Penang.

The establishment is also one of the first beach resorts in Malaysia to receive certification for its design and construction from the EarthCheck Sustainability Qualification, a leading Australian ESG certifier for the hospitality and leisure industry.

Since the opening of the resort in October 2020, the development has stimulated and rejuvenated businesses in the surrounding Teluk Bahang area and celebrated the strengths of the surrounding eco-tourism sites, such as the Penang National Park, Tropical Spice Garden, Escape Theme Park, Entopia, and many more.

After the resort’s multiple closures since its opening due to movement control orders that acted as the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, it finally enjoyed a year of uninterrupted operations in 2022 leading to good revenues and profitability, as well as attaining its five-star rating from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. With over 180 staff, the hotel provides stable job opportunities for Malaysians particularly from around the local area.

Looking towards the future, the development of a 3-acre land bank is being planned to provide 400,000 square feet of mixed-use components, comprising 250 units of wellness serviced apartments, retail establishments and other attractions, alongside a proposed cable car station that will link the estate to Penang Hill and onwards to Georgetown.
