Billion Prima leads the ‘scanner revolution’

It has been granted five patents and two industrial designs in Malaysia.

Through the years, Malaysian-owned company Billion Prima has transformed itself from a service maintenance-oriented firm to a world-class cargo x-ray scanner R&D and manufacturing company with cutting-edge technology. Having secured a notable 40% market share in the cargo scanner industry in Malaysia, it has leveraged its reputation and expertise to expand into the other markets in Southeast Asia and beyond.

The company, through its vision, has inspired its talented engineers and researchers to continuously improve the features of its scanners, resulting in the granting of five patents and two industrial designs in Malaysia, with the first patent in the USA already in the final stages of review. An additional seven patents are pending filing as well.

Moreover, its strong research collaboration with top universities of Malaysia has helped Billion Prima recruit talented young Malaysian researchers and engineers.

The company's investment in huge R&D research grants has resulted in the development of world-class cargo scanners, successfully supplying 15 units to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and one unit to the Directorate General of Customers and Excise Indonesia in 2022. This year, five more units are targeted to be delivered to Indonesia.

In its attempt to expand business internationally, Billion Prima has explored opportunities in regions with a demand for cargo scanner systems by establishing strategic partnerships with international distributors, resellers, or agents to reach new markets and increase its brand visibility.

Since it is a homegrown company, it also contributes to the local economy through job creation, revenue generation, and assistance in the country to achieve its goal of being a high-end technology nation. The company has been able to leverage local talent and resources as well as secure international clients through its homegrown innovation, quality, and competitiveness in the global market.

Above all, Billion Prima is the only cargo and baggage x-ray scanner R&D and manufacturing company in Southeast Asia, making them a true trailblazer in the industry.

Its innovations, including its successful initiatives and strategies in becoming a world-class company and contributions to the Malaysian economy, have been recognised by the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards. The company took home the Security Technology - Cargo Handling category win.

The prestigious awards programme recognises exceptional companies who are leading the technological revolution and digital journeys of their respective industries to boost Malaysia’s ever-growing economy.
