ABeam Consulting Malaysia wins the Employee Engagement of the Year - IT Services accolade

Its unique and diverse approach has made a difference to the overall employee experience

ABeam Consulting Malaysia has earned the prestigious Employee Engagement of the Year – IT Services award at the Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2023, showcasing its unwavering commitment to employee well-being, diversity, and engagement.

In line with its focus on inclusivity, ABeam Consulting implemented Yammer, an enterprise social networking platform, to facilitate private communications within the organisation. This initiative encourages casual engagement and interaction amongst employees, fostering a sense of community.

The company places a significant emphasis on promoting diversity and women's empowerment within its workforce. A remarkable 47% of ABeam Consulting's employees are women, with an impressive 36% of them holding leadership positions. This commitment challenges gender stereotypes prevalent in the male-dominated IT industry.

To enhance team cohesion and productivity, ABeam Consulting introduced the innovative "Hula Hoop Time" programme. This initiative encourages the company’s leaders and employees to dedicate specific time every quarter to fostering team-engagement activities. Additionally, the establishment of the sports club "Beamania" provides an avenue for employees interested in physical activities to participate in monthly sports tournaments.

In an effort to facilitate transparent communication between employees and management, ABeam Consulting’s "Chit Chat with MD" initiative has been an excellent platform for obtaining employees' views. This monthly virtual session provides open communication, allowing employees to share their thoughts and feedback directly with the company's leadership. 

In addition, new hires are also encouraged to contribute their feedback through the “New Beam Connect” programme, unlocking a greater employee experience, supporting retention, and boosting morale and productivity. 

The annual employee engagement survey, known as “Great Firm To Work – Your Voice Makes A Difference”, allows employees to share their insights and experience, fostering a strong workplace culture with continuous improvement.

Recognising the importance of employee wellbeing, ABeam Consulting strives to offer initiatives that are relevant to the landscape at all times. WELLbinar is one of the programmes conducted monthly, aiming to create awareness on various wellbeing topics from experts. 

Through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the company monitors key mental health indicators such as depression, stress, and anxiety amongst its employees through a periodic Digital Mood Tracker survey and an experienced therapist for employees to reach out for further support because ABeam believes mental health matters.

ABeam Consulting also engages in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, emphasising “CSR hours” initiatives to enable employees to volunteer in community programmes where they may contribute time, effort, and funds to make a meaningful impact.

Amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, ABeam Consulting demonstrated adaptability by introducing a Flexi-Workstyle making changes in the work arrangement and attire. This forward-thinking approach allows employees to work in a hybrid working arrangement, either in the office or from any location, in smart casual and comfortable attire. This promotes flexibility and cultivates better work-life harmony. Additionally, the "Monday Blue Mood" initiative, by closing the office every Monday and enforcing employees to work from home, provides them with additional time to recharge after the weekend with their families.

This showcases the remarkable success of versatile employee engagement approaches, resulting in a notable 22% reduction in the attrition rate.
