Marafiq triumphs in the Utilities category at the Middle East National Business Awards 2023

Its innovative Duqm Integrated Power and Water Plant project earns recognition for its contribution to economic growth, environmental preservation, and community enrichment in Duqm.

Marafiq has emerged victorious in the prestigious Middle East National Business Awards 2023, securing the win in the Utilities category for their outstanding Duqm Integrated Power and Water Plant (DIPWP) project.

Marafiq is deeply committed to becoming a world-class integrated utility provider, exemplified by their dedication to harnessing synergies and optimising resources in the Duqm area. This transformation is turning Duqm into a global trading hub whilst bolstering the economic, urban, and social development of the region.

The DIPWP project is one of their groundbreaking initiatives that provide power and water to the Duqm Refinery (OQ8) on an exclusive basis. The project encompasses a 325 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant, a 36,000 m3/day Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant, Seawater Intake Facilities, and 1,000,000 m3/day capacity.

In alignment with Oman Vision 2040, Marafiq's contributions extend beyond employment and environmental impact. The company actively reduces CO2 emissions through natural gas-powered electrification, preserving the environment whilst guaranteeing a dependable supply of utilities to meet the growing regional demands. It has also adopted natural gas for power generation, reducing emissions equivalent to those of 20,000 cars. 

Furthermore, Marafiq aspires to be a comprehensive entity, addressing the needs of businesses in Duqm. By investing in education and enhancing the skills of the local workforce, Marafiq actively contributes to the local community by meeting the utility needs of over 4000 customers, generating nearly 400 jobs, and providing on-the-job training opportunities with a commitment to hiring 25% of trainees. The company's dedication extends to educational initiatives, including the construction of a state-of-the-art nursery in Duqm and sponsoring top Omani students for intercultural learning experiences in the UK.
