4 interior design trends reshaping Singaporean homes

Experts say homeowners are embracing a fusion of timeless elegance and contemporary innovation.

When planning their homes, Singaporeans typically aim for one or more of these four design elements: luxury, retro, uniqueness, and minimalism.

“Singapore homeowners are embracing a fusion of timeless elegance and contemporary innovation,” platforms SG Interior and Homeez said.

Talking about the concept of luxury, SG Interior and Homeez said Singaporeans are departing from “ostentatious displays of wealth” when it comes to designing their homes.

“Singaporeans are leaning towards ‘Quiet Luxury’ in their interior design choices. This trend is characterized by subtle opulence, emphasizing quality materials, craftsmanship, and refined details,” explained SG Interior and Homeez.

“Homeowners are opting for rich textures, muted colour palettes, and bespoke furnishings to create a sense of understated luxury,” the platforms added.

Apart from Quiet Luxury, many Singaporeans also want their homes to undergo “Retro Revival.”

“This trend sees a resurgence of design elements from bygone eras, with a modern twist. Vintage furniture, geometric patterns, and bold colour schemes reminiscent of the mid-20th century,” commented SG Interior and Homeez.

“Mixing and matching old and new, homeowners are creating eclectic spaces that celebrate the charm of yesteryear while incorporating the convenience and functionality of contemporary living,” the platforms said.

Whilst homeowners draw inspiration from bygone eras when designing homes, they also want their dwelling places to have spaces that are unique and personalised.

“Customisation is key, with a focus on bespoke furniture, unique artworks, and personalised decor items. Singaporeans are opting for one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their individuality, creating homes that tell a story and resonate with their narrative in their 2024 design projects,” the platforms stated.

When designing their homes, homeowners, of course, consider their budgets.

According to SG Interior and Homeez, homeowners are adopting a more mindful and eco-friendly approach to interior design moving into 2024, keeping their budgets to below $30,000.

The “Minimalist on My Wallter” trend amongst homeowners involves decluttering spaces, choosing multi-functional furniture, and opting for sustainable materials.
