Philippines expects over 4,000 MW of power projects to begin operations this year

These projects include both conventional and renewable energy.

The Philippines is anticipating to see at least 4,164.92 megawatts (MW) of power projects to start operations this year, supporting the country’s power supply and grid stability.

In a statement, the Department of Energy said 161.2 MW of these projects have already reached full commercial operations, whilst 835.89 MW are under testing in the commissioning stage.

The power projects comprise both renewable and conventional sources. These include the 600 MW Mariveles Coal-Fired Power Plant where Unit 1 was already been commissioned last month while the remaining units are under testing and will start operations by the third quarter.

The 1,320 MW Batangas Combined Cycle Power Plant will start operations in the fourth quarter.

For renewable projects, 1,984.76 MW of solar projects have reached completion and commercial operations, of which 966.3 MW coming online in June, and 494.89 MW are under testing and commissioning.

The department added that at least 590 MW of battery energy storage system will start operations this year, whilst 32.42 MW are already operational.
